Sacrifice and Choice

We find ourselves perched atop the great hill with the battle of our home raging below us. The sounds of screams from friends and family deafen our senses. We cannot close our eyes without hearing their blood curdling screams of agony, begging for help. Do we fight, or do we run? Fighting means certain death. Running means living with the guilt and shame of letting our loved ones die a ferocious death, never to be seen again.
Is sacrifice worth it, or is it just a futile attempt to justify a bad decision? Sacrificing yourself is the greatest sign of dignity, courage and respect a man or woman could ever show others. Yet, survival is what is etched into our bones, into our evolutionary design. There is no right answer, and there is no wrong answer. There is only a choice to be made.
As we ponder our decision, the great Hainu of legend reveals himself from behind the clouds. He is fierce, ferocious, and looking for a way to assert himself upon us. Legend tells us two stories of the great beast. One of good and one of evil. Which side will win today?
