The Zcash Killer

A security researcher (Taylor Hornby) used Claude Opus 4.8 (released just days earlier on May 28, 2026) as part of an auditing setup and uncovered a critical counterfeiting vulnerability in Zcash's Orchard shielded pool. The bug had apparently existed for over 4 years. It allowed false inputs to bypass an elliptic curve multiplication check, potentially letting someone mint unlimited undetectable fake ZEC.
